    Hello everyone,

We've now come to the time where we will talk about the things that will be up and coming in the next Cyrene PP VU. Please keep in mind that everything that I will talk about here is preliminary and can still be changed to varying degrees. That being said, this post will focus on: Booths.

Since Planet Cyrene's first initial launch in the Entropia Universe and the first loots were being discovered, players have wanted to have a way to sell items outside the auction on Cyrene. While booths have been in Janus, and now at the 0x101 Supply Depot for some time, they haven't been able to be used for players.

Initially it was intended to be part of our Hard Launch, however, due to various setbacks Hard Launch has not yet come to Cyrene. So here we've been thinking about the best way to get the booths out and into the hands of the players who would actively maintain them, stocked with goods at a fair price. Normally, booths are traditionally sold in the auction and then player owned, which can then be past from player to player. We wanted to take a different approach.

So the 6 booths that we currently have will be distributed in the following ways. Please note that all the booths are the same look and item level so the numbers are arbitrary and only used to differentiate between them.

    1 - Cyrene Citizen

    2- Player Recommendation

3 - Scavenger Hunt (Developer Lead)

4 - Event HoF Hunting (Cyrene Mob)

5 - Event HoF Mining (Cyrene Ore / Enmatter)

6 - Event HoF Crafting (Cyrene Blueprint)

All the booths come with the following caveats:

    1) No booth will be owned, it will be earned on a quarterly basis through these events.

    2) If the booth owner keeps their shop active and upkeep maintained, we may allow the continued ownership of that booth for additional time (in quarterly increments).

We feel this is a way to reward active players for their continued pioneering efforts on Cyrene.

    Regards,
    Kris

Booth are great for Cyrene, we can finally sell our loot !!! And second good suprise, i see you plan to do event. Well count me in :D

Who and how you will choose the Cyrene Cityzen ? And how will work player Recommendation?

Very nice idea and very good surprise !

I love this idea, no owner, and players have to use the booths. Excellent approach :)

Might avoid the wasteland of empty booths/shops from players gone permanently afk.

Justine has 2 great questions there.
For the later does that mean devs would add voting booths???

    I'd never get one from points 1, 2, 4, 5, 6 however I'm curious:
If the player has a history of ignoring/neglecting booth will the devs have a rule in place to omit that player from all future selection?
The OP reads like 1 player can end up with most/all booths, or will players be limited to 1 booth?
(given booths out fairly by their earliest date+time win date?)

    Hmm.
So you own a booth for 4 months and then its taken from you? That goes against the fundamental idea of entropia universe. Especially if you reward the booth to an event winner. An event winner is normally not a trader, because an event winner is normally busy.. winning events.
I can understand that you want flourishing booths. But to award them to mining and hunting event winners is not the right route.
You should make trading events or award them to those who keep the cyrene auction alive. Award booths to those who have the most sold items on cyrene auction.

Bur who will go for a booth event if the prize can just disappear again?

It seems extremely complicated. I doubt the Cyrene management will be able to manage this (and they will probably say it's MA's fault if it doesn't work).

If it lets Cyrene not have empty/ignored shops owned by a handful of wealthy players who've no drive/thirst to even visit much less sell their empty shop, then this revised concept is entirely reasonable!
(I say revised concept cause it's not dissimilar to landgrabs.)

Hopefully this lets Cyrene avoid what happened to the (ghost) shops on the other low population worlds...
Plus could be a tiny start towards having some local economy.

    +1 Hec

Yes i think this is a good way. Market is really bad, shop will help because no auction fee and no time limit. It will help some players to find weapons. I saw plenty shop/booth empty on all other place because owner don't play much or this is just an investment.
This way seems good, players are not owners of the shop and they have to use it. That will help, i hope, Cyrene to grow up.

A lot of interesting ideas but a lot of caveats, too. I see some obvious pitfalls already but the whole thing requires very careful consideration.

It's essential that crafting and mining events happen at the same time so that one gobbles up the stuff produced by the other.

    Yes great idea Haruto :)

There is a limit ? I mean 1 per avatar ? For example, what happen if one player win mining and crafting event for example? The Cyrene cityzen is able to do event and claim another booth ?

Do you plan to put more Shop in future if 6 seems low ? You plan to stop this system when hardlaunch will be ready ?

    Thanks :)

It's hard enough as it is to find one of the few shops that are well maintained by their owners. If these booths are temporarily owned then it's even less likely that they'll be well maintained. I doubt many people will even bother checking them. Still, it's something different, and worth a try I guess.

I would stay away from anything resembling a popularity contest however.

At first glance an interesting idea. But having read the above I can say that I would not as a shop owner and co-owner of other shops, consider such a short term investment, even assuming I managed to win one.
What would I do with the stock at the end of the period when my shop evaporated?
What safety guarantees would there be to ensure all stock in situ would be returned to owner?
Also from experience it takes 3 to 6 months to get stock levels up and tailored to the buyers needs. This would lead to a lot of start up stalls and no established trade.

So many pitfalls. So little advantage....
and please remember rented shops (another alternative) was tried and failed on Calypso

Yet without some shop/stall trading meeting the requirements for a hard launch will take far longer. Don't dismiss the thought, just look at it again, in particular period of ownership.
Perhaps a means of the successful ones becoming established and those with low trading figures to be reclaimed.. tho that may create it's own minefield.

As for multiple ownership that is easily overcome, by an event winner ownership cap .. if you win more than 1 you can choose which, and the others then go to the #2 in the competition etc

Also please note most shop owners are not full time traders, we hunt mine and craft as normal players and a shop or stall is simply an outlet for some of our output.

The problem with shops is that many of them are held by 'investors' who correctly realize they can earn more by finding another sucker, er, 'investor' to resell the estate, than by actually maintaining it. Having no resale value would keep 'investors' away, so I'd rather expect these booths to be on average better maintained than Calypso shops.

Most people do not participate in events if they're not interested in the prizes offered, so I wouldn't worry about Yoda or Messi coming, grabbing all the booths and flying off to the next event.

To maintain a shop, one needs sufficient bankroll, and HSL events strongly prefer those with the biggest bankroll, so it seems an appropriate selection method. At least it'll ensure I don't get one. :D

A trading event sounds like an interesting idea... until one thinks of what it would do to the MU.

Activity can be simulated, especially if the booths are on zero tax ground.

Perhaps the best metric would be the number of unique customers - can MA give you that stat?

No, the main problem is that they're only good when they're run by active crafters who make things specifically to stock their shops with and can keep up a regular and predictable supply (e.g. KikkiJikki, Geats, that's about it) but most shops are not owned by such people. Most shops are filled, if with anything, with whatever random crap loot the owner happens to have at the time, so for the most part are a waste of time to visit.

It seems unlikely that booths, under this system, will go to the people who are capable of maintaining them properly. Even the crafting award is most likely to go to a gambler, not someone who crafts for sales.

you are totally wrong, actually what will happen is what exactly you said that will not happen. Remember when the time for these events come.. Joda, Messi and other uber WSS, Dark templar and Entropy members will come to win these events, after they win these booths, they'll fill them up with the thousands weapons they have and they'll go back to caly.. they will only coming by time to time to refill their booths and leave again.. I bet none of cyrene players will win any of these events and you'll never see any of the booth's owners for more than a day on cyrene.

good luck, when the time comes, just remember what i told you..

i was waiting for like 2-3 years for the time that these booths will be up for sale and i was thinking to buy 1-2 for myself to sell the thousands items i have in my storage and these i keep looting while hunting or these i craft. Now i see that the waiting was a waste of time.

Personal i don't like the idea to give the booths in a quarterly events and i don't think that i'll stay for long time on cyrene if i lose the opportunity to own at least one of these booths

so, i'll have to say goodbye to your planet if the problem i have that can't sell my items remain..

btw, i would like to hear a more detailed explanation about these two ways to give out your booths:
"1 - Cyrene Citizen" and "2- Player Recommendation"

Also, i'm wondering what criteria you have to be sure that the owners have their booths active and the upkeep maintained, so you could let them keep the booths for another quarter. How you'll know that they didn't use some alts or friends to buy items from their booths just to increase the turnover in their booths and keep these booths forever?

    thanks, stelios

I think these booth are just for wait the hardlaunch, where we can buy booth. This is a temporarly thing. When all booth will be release we can buy our booth.

I think this idea is not bad for help Cyrene to stay alive a little bit until the hardlaunch come.

It depend how the event will be. For example i was on Mornia for Halloween event. There was 3 appartments to win, rules was fair and equal for all players :
    • 3 people with a Yog Global/HoF that adds up to the number 6 will win a Monria apartment
Appartment was win with 24, 15 and 15 ped global. Just do a specific global at a time and you win. Uber and lower player have equal chance to win.

I would to know more too about that :D

    Cheers
