Planet Cyrene - Upcoming Changes - August 2021

Hey guys,

I wanted to share some upcoming changes to Planet Cyrene. During the summer we’ve been working to make adjustments, improvements and finish out mission chains.

To start with, we have two creatures who have new maturities: Hackfins and Jellyworms!

The hackfin shallow shelf area south of the supply depot, has been rebuilt, and the ocean itself seems to have some more life starting to form, allowing the hackfins more time to grow.

Meanwhile in the Zyn’Tukano area, now that the tribal rites are being performed, new maturations of Jellyworms are gathering at the base of the village. The A.R.C. Scientists have started to study these new maturities and are reporting them to be saturated with sweat. It’s unclear where this will lead but everyone is keeping watch on this area.

There’s been several updates during this time as well. The workers at New Janus have been busy preparing the terrain and preparing for more construction. At 0x101 Supply Depot there’s been some restructuring with an emphasis making sure each distinct area has enough space.

Also it seems that some kind of natural disaster struck Risen Island, decimating all the plant life.

Lime Green Tokens, acquired by going to the Proving Grounds in the Hub, will have a more centralized location, to promote more competition in their collection.

Furthermore, the pesky NPCs that existed in the Proving Grounds have been forcefully removed due to some loot issues, they will be re-evaluated before any additional introduction. Additionally, player versus player areas outside of the Hub will have some slight adjustments: vehicles and teleportation will be prohibited in these zones.

We’ve updated the look of Neff’s Stim Pack to better set it apart from the other First Aid Packs in the game:

Lastly, Ryvox has been quite busy. Enough players now have found the rifts and he’s ready to divulgue more information about Turrelia and the Turelions, and the value that players killing players brings to him. He’ll have a reward for doing all this for him, albeit an unstable one, tuned to the crystal energy of Cyrene. One that won’t operate anywhere else in the universe…

I hope this has been a good preview of what’s to come.
Thank you everyone for reading and playing on Planet Cyrene.

Cheers,
Kris

First, thanks for the preview. I assume the VU will come this September VU though I guess you guys aren't allowed to confirm that. Secondly did I interpret it right that, that new howler weapon that looks badass is gonna be tied (usable only on Planet Cyrene) ? If that's the case I think that would be a great waste. I hope you guys can reconsider that. Having it usable on every planet but untradeable would be a better option.

It depend i would say.
If this is a high efficiency weapon, why not. That will force player to play on the planet.
If this is a 55/60% efficiency weapon, yes totally useless if only usable on Planet Cyrene.
Wait and see :)

I love all the new stuff! The issue i see here is this.. development should be geared towards making things that are fun that make people "want" to come here and enjoy what we have to offer. If the time comes where the dev team is developing things to "FORCE" people to be here, then just wrap it up and move on. This player base will never be forced to do anything for long. We are forced by life to do too many things everyday, we do not need it in our leisure time as well. Just throwing it out there in case Justine is right in her assessment, she is a smart gal and usually is spot on with these.

I agree with you Jukman, "FORCE" was not a good word. I'm not smart enought to use correct words here.
But you are right in your statement. All we need is fun here ^^
I would love to see a weapon that change how we look when we equip them :D

I know what you mean by "force". If the item is good enough to give someone a competitive edge, then everybody playing in that tier will be compelled to get it because they know that the others will. It's like that time when every über had to sport an antler helmet and a pink bunny, no matter how ridiculous it looks (I liked the developer's sense of humour with that -- I bet most didn't even notice the experiment). Here, the idea of limiting its use to the location they have control over is intended to counter this trend. And also avoid accusations of pilfering players from elsewhere instead of growing their own. Therefore it will probably not be a tool to dominate Mayhem, either. So you'll go for it if you enjoy being here, otherwise there is no point.

I just returned a few days ago. Still haven't regained the motivation lost to the politicking behind the scenes. It will probably weigh down on the game forever. But nice to see things are happening, very much looking forward to New Janus. Love the jellies, such a hilarious design :D. Is the new variant intended specifically for sweating? That's a great idea.

Cheers!
