This is not a how to craft guide, just an off-the-cuff pile of observations about textures on Cyrene. I get asked this stuff alot, so I thought I would post it up for general review.
1) There are no Cyrene textures a beginner can both craft and apply. Those can be found by crafters on Calypso, Arkadia, Toulan, Rocktopia, but not on Cyrene.
2) Burning wire on VSE does essentially zero for either Colorer or Material Designer Professions, aside from intelligence bumps which only contributes 3% to Colorer.
3) Burning wire on VSE will give engineering which is a 20% contributor to Materiel Constructor.
4) in case you are confused, Colorer Profession is for adding colors, Materiel Designer Profession is for adding textures, and Material Constructor Profession is for making Textures.
5) There are very few of Level 1 texture BP that can be crafted with the materials available on Cyrene. None of the Texture BP available on Cyrene can be applied with less than a level 10 in Material designer, so they are not for beginners.
6) The only BP that can be crafted and applied with materials found on Cyrene with a Material Designer less than 1 are Brukite Stone and Large Striped Cotton Fabric. The Large Striped Cotton Fabric BP comes from the technician on Calypso and goes into the Material Texture Blueprint Vol 1. The Brukite Stone BP is very common and can usually found at auction for 2PED or less.
7) The Texture Pattern Matching skill contributes 40% to the Material Designer profession, which is the lions share. Aside from chipping, applying textures is the only activity that can gain this skill. Attempting to raise this profession through any other means is essentially futile.
8) Using the Brukite Stone BP to increase the Material Constructor Profession is extremely slow due to the almost insignificant cost of each click.
9) The Large Striped Cotton Fabric BP uses 1 wool cloth and 1 inferior cloth extractor. Both the wool and the extractors drop from a wide variety of Cyrene Mobs, some quite often. These materials are plentiful and come with little markup.
10) If you live on Cyrene and are considering beginning texture and coloring, some good advice would be to start with Large Striped Cotton Fabric. You can find the materials easily, start making the textures with zero skill, and apply them with zero skill.
11) Applying textures gives skill bumps in coloring, carpentry, and tailoring. There is a tailoring daily at staging that may be worth doing to get a little jump start via tailoring skills. As you increase your Materiel designer Profession through applying textures, you will see the coloring, tailor, and carpenter skills all advance as well.
12) Hold off on skilling coloring directly via painting things until your coloring profession reaches a reasonable level.
13) Keep skilling on Large Striped Cotton Fabric until the Material Designer Profession reaches 1.1, when you can apply Denim Fabric from Calypso. Get that BP and make some! At 2.3 You can make and apply Flannel Fabric, and at 4.6 you can do Hessian Fabric. All are from Calypso, sell for cheap at auction, and use components commonly found on Cyrene. At level 10, you can start crafting and applying Cyrene BP if you choose.
These are just my observations. Please weigh these opinions and use your own judgment.
