We have indeed looked at "Traditional Mechs" that land but move with flight.
Your probably aware of the following issues too. Although difficult for us to discuss properly because on our player side we don't know the technical details of what is possible and what isn't and the technical limitations. I understand you can't talk about them and I wouldn't ask you to. However, I hope you don't mind me throwing up some ideas perhaps something may trigger and idea or an interesting line of inquiry... (oh I don't really expect an answer either
)
Problem I foresee is the legs. If they can imitate walking or not or indeed how well of a walk would be possible.
Anyway some "silly" ideas to explore:
* Can wheels be made to look like legs and indeed behave like legs i.e. using the vehicle template to adapt the wheel completely beyond any recognition
* Perhaps a number of "wheels" each forming part of a leg
* Perhaps other parts could form a leg or part of a leg e.g. a gun/sword, so legs would be weapons
* Perhaps the physics of cryengine could be used to tinker the above to simulate natural leg movements i.e. no additional coding involved just making use of some features of cryengine
* Using a number of vehicles to form a mech. This could make for some interesting teamwork game play. Every part here could be identical. For example using this kind of modular approach:
* Flying mech with legs as mostly static i.e. no attempt made to simulate walking. Legs could be some sort of weapons. Could have additional weapons attached onto the weapon/legs e.g. main leg a cannon with smaller miniguns attached to cannon. Having a leg as a weapon gives it a reason for it to exist other than just landing/takeoff utensil.
* Possibility of using combination of avatar/vehicle/pet systems to form a new hybrid mech type?
