Bug Report Xandras Cyrene & mission problems

Hi,

landed on Cyrene, doing the initial missions.

What made me problems doin missions:

Getting Battle Ready - took me several tries to get it counted, bought about 5x a S.I. Scorpion with 100 rounds each. And after it finally worked, the Drill Instructor refused to talk to me, until I relogged. A newbie might have given up, and dropped the game.
Besides, is it really a good idea to ask to "buy a weapon" in this stage?
Btw, the S.I. Scorpion seems to have no sound yet.

"Scary" Hackfin - quite some of the Hackfins became "unreachable" just before their end, and took major efforts to "unlock" again.

Merfolken quest line - constantly switching between "Lord Pyscidon" and "Regent Halbird" when chasing down them evil merfolken - seems every time I cross a hidden line one aborts, and I get the other. And vice verse when running back ...
Dunno if this resets my kill counter too ...

What else?

I have a quite hard time to find all these quest givers, without Wiki. Wouldn't it be great to have them "lined up", similar to the Arkadia entry missions? At least the basic ones?
Newbies might become quite desperate quickly - on the other hand the use of a Wiki is a must anyway.

The "Spear" is a crazy stylish vehicle - but very hard to drive. It might be my lack of experience, but I damaged it badly only driving back to ARC HQ ...

The landscape is a bit unfriendly. Too much high slopes and steep cliffs, at least from what I've seen now.

A general problem with mobs being "stuck" behind small bushes or such. "Unreachable" is quite common.

------------------------------------
All in all, I feel quite happy here. The planet seems to be done with diligence, and I'm deadly excited to explore more of it. The team has done a good job, and can be sure of my best wishes. But this is a bug report, not a praising thread, so I'll stop here.

I'll update this with new findings when approbate.

Have a good time!

hi Xandra :) Thanks for reporting.

Kris creates threads with the patches and updates after each patch here:

http://cyreneforum.com/forums/cyrene-version-update-notes.72/

Some of the missions still have issues, unfortunately :(

The landscape has been issued as well, but I have to admit I'm not sure whether that will change.

Overall it's nice to hear you having a good first time impression - and all your feedback is appreciated and a great help to us :)

Hi,

atm I'm running low on PEDs, don't want to TT all of my loot for quick money. Is there a trading hub? I'm usually ways out in the bush, whacking cute little furry critters, or bomb the crap out of the Cyrenian soil, so I might just have missed finding it :)

All in all, Cyrene makes a quite good impression. I understand that we're in the "soft lauch" phase still, so there's not much to expect regarding the story line yet. It feels a bit "empty" at the moment, though ...

A few more points:

- Mining: I have happily refilled my oil supplys. This is great news! On the other hand, finding mostly Oil and Lyst is quite a bummer - I have yet to find any of those dreaded yellow crystals! Stopped ore mining completely because 90% of what I found was Lyst, and who needs this?

- Hunting: Think the mobs/ spawns need some more balancing. Every other time there's some in between that need a major whacking to finally go down, even among the "easy spawns". "Elite Merfolken", "scout bot 100/ 779" - no problem to have some harder mobs in a spawn, but this much harder, does it really make sense?
I accept that this might be another way to handle the hunting, and I don't condemn it.

- Daily quests: Not sure about yet. Does it really make sense? Or is it just a WoW clone to keep ppl busy? EU is typically played for years, does it really make sense then to have to kill Lord Psycidon (or however he is spelled) every day, for years to come?

I enjoyed my time on Cyrene, but I'll head back to Arkadia soon (as soon as my PED are gone ;-) ). For sure, I'll return later. Cyrene has potential, but I see still quite nasty inconsistencies. Hope they'll be worked on.

Have a good time!

Well, as far as I've noticed. Mainly the ARC HQ (it's the new arrival spawn) as a hub, and a few people have mentioned central Janus (since ships come in there). But I never go to Janus.

If I was high enough level, I'd certainly need the Lyst, there's a BP floating on the auction every now and then, I think it's called Lysterium Power Container or somesuch... Uses like 40ish lyst. It's lv7 prof Electronic craft.

The mobs are weird, that's for sure.. it's just odd to see a lower level with tons more health. Though at least the loot is usually matched to the increased health.

Dailies, as far as I've read, are going to change and evolve the area depending on what the players do. That's my assumption as to how that's going to tie into the evolving world premise. If players don't kill em off constantly, maybe the merfolken get a foot-hold in the area and establish a base later. Though it would probably sound better if they weren't named, and were just "Merfolken Chieften" or somesuch since a leader would be replaced.

Aaaanyhow, hope that helps. I'm newish here myself, but that's my understanding of things thus-far.

Great to see another new person on Cyrene who likes the basics Xandra :)

The spear certainly takes a lot of SI damage when using it, but considering the amount of SI it has I'm even tempted to assume it is supposed to take damage from stuff that is invisible to me (even on tracks).
Now I do one hell of a lot of repairing as I spend loads of time in space, but it does annoy me enough for me to generally only use my spear as a cliff climbing device!

Whether the market in welding wires and tools is supposed to explode on Cyrene one things get started or not???

Merfolken quest line - the line is north-south a bit west of the stream. I guess it is one of those things to be learnt over time... I reckon it will have to be changed anyway if the target is to have more than a nearly deserted planet in operation - I'm hoping the developers are fully aware of the scale of things in the soft launch and are able to plan accordingly....

NB: I'm in a slightly negative mood today, but maybe that just makes me a bit more blunt.
I continue to be a supporter of Cyrene - just a bit miffed at the delay to hard launch and the way the info about that has been handled so far....

About the mining: yellow crystal I've found a lot using rookie finder or the tt one. Seems to be meant as a noob mineral and only found at shallow depths.
The spear does have a problem with flipping over in the air but I use it quite a lot cause it's cheap on the oil and in reverse can steadily climb vertical cliffs :)) there's a trick to making it stop flipping and that's pushing the forward button really fast in bumpy areas, causing it to ride a lot smoother :) .

Hi,

thx all for the great posts! A few more things/ additions/ explanations:
  1. Yellow Crystals:
It's funny, now that I wrote about I started finding 'em all over the place ... With my good old TK120, and up to depths of 1,000m ;-)
    .
  2. Merfolken quests:
Yes, there's a line that divides the two "Kill until the boss comes" quests. It's roughly at the western side of this little creek, as Jetsina mentioned.
Dunno if it's meant this way, I experienced it as quite irritating when doing it first - constantly switching of the mission ...
    .
  3. Mobs:
The Level numbers of the mobs are bugged, since they were invented - we all know. This isn't a Cyrene problem, best to do is to ignore them completely, for too much mobs they make no sense at all. I've been killed by a L1 [whatever], when I usually can kill up to L30 ...
Additionally, I think it's rather weird how they are grouped together. There's no designated spawn areas of certain difficulties, so that the full nOOb could trustfully use island A, the advanced newbie Island B then, and the real hard stuff would ravage on the other side of the map, on islands X to Z.
This might have be meant so, and I'm not condemning it - it could spice up the things a bit. But it's quite new to me ;-)
    .
  4. Soft launch:
One thing that bothers me is that, due to the soft launch method, there's quite some things missing, leading to a comparable low population. And so there's not much way to sell your loot.
Wouldn't it be possible to broaden the offers of the NPC's (temporarily) that offer tokens for stuff? To make it a bit more more easy for the soft launch participants? So much stuff in storage that is, today, actually useless - nobody wants it, and it's just too shiny to TT it ...
It might have a use once, but what to do now with it?
    .
  5. Tokens:
I'd like to see the stats of the gear I'd get for my 300 tokens. Before I buy it. There's a sword I'd aiming for - but will it be worth my grind? Would be nice I'd knew beforehand.
    .
  6. Area:
I still cannot befriend to all those hills, cliffs, and steepest slopes all over the place.
Yes, I know, I should use my Spear, or my Arkadian vehicle, but I don't like at all to maneuver steep areas, hidden in bushes, not seeing where I am and where my next step will lead to. I managed to die form falling repeatedly now, and I don't regard this as major fun.
And I don't leave home w/o a VTOL, as well as w/o my 2 TP chips. It still often feels painful, and I think a new player not having these comfy tools might feel quite annoyed ...

This is not a rant! I'm enjoying Cyrene, and I'll stay here as long as possible w/o running out of PEDs, and being forced to fly back to my main storage. And then I'll come back, promised ...
Reason for this is to point to things that maybe could need an improvement, to make this planet an even better place.
Kudos to the Cyrenian Team, you've done a good job! But as always, there's still things that could be done even better ,-)
This thread here is meant as a try to help with this.

Have a good time!
