Present Your Character's Back Story ...

MindStar 9

Hoping for the Best
During a story arc session for my Cyrene Chronicles with Ed on Skype, we ended up talking about character back stories. Ed mentioned that he noticed that some players were role-playing and writing a back story for their characters at our forum which is very exciting to him. And specifically said:

"I love it, I wish I knew everyone's back story for the characters... oddly enough I used to do the same thing in my EverQuest guild days and my friends would ask me to write some for them as well. It was one of the things I enjoyed most, so I get a huge kick out of other players doing it too."

I've mentioned before how much Ed loves storyline, role-playing and fan fiction, so we are inviting you to create your character back story for how you have made your journey through our universe and have come to Cyrene.

It doesn't have to be lengthy, but something that defines your character and tells the story of the trials and tribulations experienced, as well as victories. This is an opportunity to introduce your character to all of us, and perhaps continue your story during your experiences on Cyrene after launch.

If you would please:
  • Create a new thread in the "Fan Fiction" section of the forum
  • Use your character's name in the title of your thread
  • Present your back story from when you first entered Entropia Universe
  • Develop your story to the point of coming to Cyrene
  • Continue your story as you have your Cyrene experiences (optional)
Ed is excited to learn who you are and what your story is, and I'm sure it will be interesting to your fellow Entropians as well.

We are looking forward to the entries.

It's a pitty that I can't find the drafts of what I wrote shortly after joining EU (two PC's ago) and that I can't find em on the current forum. Would have liked to have re-posted or linked that little bit of story as a flashback or something in Mac's Tale after having seen this thread.

Woulda been kinda neat to compare the charactor's view point/outlook. Especially as what I've done so far on this forum is move the same charactor forward to the present making him older and bit jaded...um, perhaps more than a bit...

I know a lot of people created fictive stories around their avatars in Entropia. Our Universe is in many ways perfect for doing that because your path you take is your own choice and you are your own master.

I created a thread way back in 2005 where I wrote my background story, and I re-created the thread on EP long time ago, also asking others to do the same, here:

http://www.entropiaplanets.com/foru...share-your-entropian-history.3341/#post-25009

Those who love role playing will probably get a kick out of creating a 'life' in Entropia. To me personally it added that extra dimension I needed to make things fun, special and unique. And if it wasn't for the role playing, Peter and I might not have met ;)

Looking forward to read people's stories =)

It's interesting to see what others might have done elsewhere in the past (thanks for sharing if you do), but we're hoping that you will please create your character back story here at the Cyrene Forum, and then perhaps choose to continue your story while having your experiences on Cyrene.

This would especially be interesting reading should you decide to participate in our covert ops role-playing events, because I'm sure that it would make for some adventurous character storyline content.

Looking forward to learning more about the history and journey of many of you.

Ed will be reading them as well (as he already has), and maybe he'll even make comments now and then.

Thank You!

I think I am going to write something myself - havent really written much in the last few weeks but I think it is time to brush off my keyboard and start speaking in typos - then the world will see how brilliantly stupid I can be at times :)

Lets see what I come up with...

I just made a little edit to your post my dear partner! :p

You are a very intelligent young man, and I would never associate the word "stupid" with you whatsoever. :nana:

I know you were being humorous, but your writing is quite unique, and I am a huge fan.

Can I hire a ghost writer? ;)

... it wouldn't be the same as if you put your own flavor into it, especially all the colorful nuances you can add with your crayons. Don't deprive us of the authentic you that I'm sure would get filtered through the writing of some "ghost" that wouldn't know sh!t from shinola when it comes to your ... uhm ... uniqueness? :nana:

And to everyone else ... I know we have some creative writers out there, and people able to tell their stories, so I'm hoping that some of you take up the task of adding your own journey to how you came to be on Planet Cyrene.

Also, for those who decide to make Cyrene their home, I hope that you will continue your stories while exploring the planet and let us know what your experiences are.

Everyone approaches this universe in a unique way that suits their game-play experience, and it's always interesting to learn about personal adventures.

Give it a try ... I think you'll be pleasantly surprised at how fun it can actually be. :D

Thanks for the vote of confidence :) , but I hate writing! Must have something to do with all those sentences I had to write as a kid :p

Well, consider this a mandatory penance for all those times you unleashed your pets on people. :D

It would be an interesting way of redeeming yourself ... although, I know you're just going to continue doing the same thing once you're on Cyrene, so it would be short-lived.

If you can't write, then draw it in Paint. :p

Softy, maybe you could talk your story to one of those voice to text programs and then go back and edit out the ums, uhs, ands, ers and so on.

lol um yeah

There you go again Blanche ... acting all innocent and squeaky clean.

I'll just say this ... after Cyrene launches and you hit the planet, the only thing I will post then is:

I REST MY CASE

:xxxlaugh: :p :D :xxxlaugh:

I may be intrested in writing a backstory for my character but the problem I have is too many uncertainties. I don't know what factions there will be on Cyrene or any detailed info about any. I still haven't chosen which one I would like to be. This would all have an impact on the backstory I would like to write.

Without knowing what's ahead can't really write what could have been before...

I'm resigned to the fact I'll probably join a faction at start which will probably be the wrong choice. Since their are 5 factions chances of choosing the one I want would be 1/5. However, once I know my way around Cyrene I'll probably change to the faction I want since it's possible to change sides. Once I've settled down perhaps then I may write the back story :) The switching sides could then be an intresting part of that story ...

Dear Ace ... part of the ongoing adventure and development of your character's story is the uncovering of mysteries and possibilities as he moves forward in our universe. Knowing something ahead of time negates the unknown journey or path that lies ahead.

I know you well enough to know that you are quite capable of sharing what your character's life has been up to this point, and bring him to the edge of yet another step forward in his exploration of space. Part of drawing in your readership is keeping us in the unknown as well, and allowing us to take the ride with you as you discover what your choices have in store for you.

Whether your choices are right or wrong (as you see it) and you have to make a shift in another direction, it's what gives your character depth, as well as a higher level of strength and resilience. It's not any different than real life. We only have so much control in our decision making based on our current level of knowledge, but there's always risk with the unknown. If we carry any fear about the unknown, how will we know what's possible. ;)

Everyone has a wonderful story to tell, no matter how small or largely involved they've been in our universe. Experiences are subjective, and the results are usually unique because of the variables.

Just do it ... I would like to know your story my friend, and I have no doubt whatsoever that you can write it quite well without having to know the information you mentioned. One of the most interesting parts of any story is ... what the hell happens from here ... and it leaves us all wanting more. :D

*Except in Softy's case, because we all know what's coming!* :p

With regard to uncertainties ... the only thing certain in life is death and taxes. I always pay one, and I've had a brush with the other, yet it doesn't stop me from moving forward because of the unknown.

I can't stand at the edge looking into darkness paralyzed, because it restricts me of actually having experiences I might not ever have had. "What ifs" are never a way to live your life ... real or otherwise.

I don't want to miss a thing!
