What should Cyrene focus on next?

Well my short experience the last days - totally different for what i seen in summer btw - is that there is really NO need to implement new stuff now, but more fixing the issues that are up already!

Materials that are needed in basic crafting have to drop, that is the most important issue by now. If it doesnt drop or for the low level BPs even if it drops on an awesome rare rate, it wont work out for the common player.

This however may be a universe wide problem, on other planets it has not the big impact it may have here due to higher playerbase and variety in opportunities. Still calling it BETA thats alright with me, but faster reaction to the feedback that is provided by the small cyrene community is mandatory imo.

You guys had a good start and vision, dont loose that now or this planet is doomed.
MA has own issues going on now with the screwed up VUs all the time and the unwanted management of calypso on top. I suggest to request a MA developer to move to your headquarters for the balancing and implementation so you can slap him right in your office for every screw up that occurs.

You as a Planetpartner have the right to request reasonable changes that are needed in a fast and working way.
We as the community have the need for that working, we are all beta testers in that universe but dont have infinite patience OR funds.
MA has the right to get content that fits to the whole platform and maybe to care about the balancing part, alright.
However that does not mean that everything can just be slowed down or cut out if they are simply not able to manage it on their side!
We are all in the same boat to say it like that. From the user perspective i think we done already everything possible.

There is rumors about another VU in december. Maybe including taming and the reworked avatar systems? Well screw that!!! Fix the content that is released for crying out loud, go to sweden and kick some asses ;)

Edit: still debating if we move our soc here for december or not : /
Edit2 : Sorry folks we´re going somewhere else...Will for sure return after next update and check it out again...GL Cyrene

Once again, thank you very much for all your feed back.

I wish to make something clear; writing here is NOT as "writing a message in a bottle" - as someone fears ;)

Even if the team doesn't reply, they work hard to read and write all suggestions / bugs / issues down and to fix them as soon as possible, if possible.

The list is long (as you can imagine) which was one of the reasons to create this post - because there are a lot of things but they can't all be fixed at the same time, so they need to be placed in 'need to have' and 'nice to have' - categories, and then into which prioritisation rate each subject/issue should have.

All your contributions - large as small - are appreciated and valued and NOT wasted

Hi,

All your contributions - large as small - are appreciated and valued and NOT wasted

Me likes this. :)

Cyrene, and Arkadia, have brought fresh air to EU, with a communication by far better compared to all that we had in the years and years before.
(I'm not this much in NI and RT, so maybe there's good things, too - just dunno)

I'd wish the participants would honor this, and this way force MA to adapt, too.

Have fun!

This way I dont need to write a wall of text. Thanks quoting !

I was eagerly awaiting the launch of Cyrene back then, as the groundwork was put very well together.
I expected a little more from a "soft launch" though, but the small world or cyrene had its nice touches here and there. But yes, it is small, empty and silent. (So I guess all that I read in the past, wil be introduced (somewhere) in the future. NPCs, choose a race to fight for, etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc.)

And when I found beaches with its FarCry palm trees and that ppl just came here to the arenas to play Quake/Kwari for money, I left at once. (But not without taking the unlimited, low damage flamethrower from the TT with me) ;p

I know developing a planet, the fauna and all the mobs is very hard work. And I DO know rome wasnt built in one day, but back then, the 1st images/announcements in february of 2008 felt like...if there was unlimited budget, unlimited designers...and the planet of my dreams...wait, that would be Calypso in the VU5.6 era...so, nevermind...

...and of course Uncle Buck ahem, Ed was simpatico from the beginning...

4 years have passed since the 1st announcements and I only visited Cyrene for some days, as it was enough time to fully explore it.

Since then I live on Arkadia.

Well, thanks for proving that you have gone through this thread now. It's kinda like I felt I needed proof - like I couldn't see any footprints in the sand or so...
This is in addition to what seems like ultra-slow development of practical activity options. Cyrene is a beautiful planet and so very much work has gone into it - I appreciate that. But is it a shop-window or a place to really get stuck into hunting, mining, crafting, events, missions and trading?

Maybe I should ask back - maybe others will join me here: what do you think you have learnt about what needs to be concentrated on next? And yes, have a  and a drink out of the bottle!

To break the silence here some suggestions from me.

1. Why not get people on Cyrene that are already part of the universe?

2. Increase drop rates of items that have a high market-value on other planets. Let me explain: instead of buying weapons with a MU of let's say 125-150% right now from the few hunters on Cyrene, the people that pay high MU on i.E. Calypso will come to Cyrene more often to hunt for these items hence the playerbase on Cyrene will increase with regulars. I must admit: This is one of the main reasons I am on Cyrene since I am after Cryo Chips and Enkidd rifles.

3. Maybe run an event on one or two mobs that drop a rare item during that time etc. People will go after them as the expirience on other planets proof (Example: ARK; Scoria drop Generic Fuses which are needed to craft Warp-Drive. As MA says they focus on space still, Warp becomes a more often used item hence the mob that drops it will be hunted more often hence the playerbase on the planet, that hosts the creature, will increase.)

There is always room for improvement :)

Not sure if this has been mentioned before but one of the main reasons why I don't stay on Cyrene for long is the lack of mid level mobs to hunt that have a decent cost to hunt. As a hunter on Calypso I have a lot of choice in that area e.g. feffoid, atrox, ambulimax, maffoid, argonaut etc On Cyrene even though I am close to achieving 100 hit and 100 damage I struggle to find a mob to camp.

This could be just down to me not being able to find such a mob or there simply aren't many mobs in that category. Either mobs are too weak or too strong and the lack of mid level mobs is disappointing. Each time I visit I get frustrated and leave...

I would like to add something on the mobs I hunted so far. A few of them either are impossible to solo due to their insane hit rate (30-50dmg every 2 second from Rhinos) and dmg they do (Golems in pvp4) and some other are ruin me sort of regarding repair costs on armor/plates and FAP decay (Old Jacks and Flesh Ripper)

So I suggest to look into the insane hit/critical-hit rate of some flying mobs or add some maturity of the Rhinos that can be handled solo.

Looking forward to find some more mobs that drop nice items and being able to be hunted solo without too high repair costs on e.g. Gremlin/5B Plates.

I really don't know what to suggest. I was born on Arkadia. Roni and I got married on Cyrene at the Waterfalls. We said we would make this planet our home. Well sadly we have vacated as other players have. 1) there is nobody around, 2) they did change the Levels of some of the mobs we liked to hunt which made it impossible. 3) spawning vehicles can be a nightmare. 4) Night time was so dark although yes they corrected it. I would suggest as another player mentioned, less nighttime and more daylight. Nighttime just plain sucks IMO, or allow us to change from night to day or afternoon if that is at all possible. 5) shopping sucks. I love to spend peds on things and where do I go? CALY. Only place you can find a good selection of anything ( Arkadia is lacking as well IMO) and since you can't even bid or purchase from other planets when on another from auction, it's off to Caly we go.

It is very hard for me to pinpoint what is needed other than I know it needs many things for sure and suggestions in this whole thread have sounded like very good ones. We were just on Cyrene a few days ago, we hunted for maybe an hour and then we left. Oh and a place to socialize, trade etc would be nice and of course you need PEOPLE to do that along with a nice place to do it. Janus is beautiful and it's EMPTY.

And yes I realize this is a soft release, we griped asking for it to be released and we got it, so in a way, I also say how can we complain, but then again our complaints may be heard and this planet will end up being wonderful in the long run. Roni and I both hope so.......

Also want to say RT and NI have never really interested me/us. It's Arkadia and Caly where we spend most of our time.

Sincerely

Ok, it's pretty much the end of the year and Cyrene has gone through various stages of 'soft'.
So, here's my question set for you devs/marketing/finance team when considering the future?
How much is Cyrene costing you per week of operation with possibly just a handful of people on the planet?

What is it that is stopping more people from staying active on Cyrene once they get there?
If the answer to the last question is: the lack of people staying active on Cyrene = no community or economy, then it's a vicious circle.
How much should you actually invest per week to seed the starter people who will get the ball rolling again, to get you out from the bottom of the barrel?

Yes, I mean make sure that people are actually peds plus if they stay on Cyrene. Give them a minimum wage for shooting pedes or something, or open up a massive area oil rig (or lava rig) right across the volcano island. Make it so that the rewards are maybe low tt but need to go through crafting to make guns very eco on decay, apparently like the 1 ped tt Merry Mayhem gun drops, or so. JUST DO SOMETHING to get people cycling, especially if you want mining to be low ped cycling with just 1 or 2 probes per drop. Make an area like the boar compounds on NI for people to spend time at close to a central area of activity. For all I care, have flowing rivers that have ped-plus mobs on them, but where you get swept downstream with them and have to jump out when you reach the sea and travel back up to the mountains for more (has the same effect as the queue which peacefully forms at the newbie oil rig on calypso, but is more dynamic). Put in a wishing well or two on the path back up or so that costs a few probes per drop, but rewards with wish essence or something!

Get people rolling and running! Yes, payrole them to seed things, with secondary activities opening up once a particular level of activity is reached (planet evolution, remember?). Maybe make that activity less rewarding, but available to more people before it maxes out....

Finally, TELL people when you implement it and explain how it works!

PS: I believe the big January sale by MA will involve a new operation model (economy). In what direction will it take people and how will it affect the current planets? How will changes to space affect Cyrene - after all, space is your closest neighbour AND the only railroad tracks in and out of town!

To attract existing people to Cyrene I also suggest a event time like the Blueprint Bonanza and maybe add a few very nice items like UL guns on the level of Dire S.13 (SIB) or somethting people will definately hunt for.

The sad thing about Cyrene is, that it is very boring for new people and the lack of other people for having at least a chat or something. So the lack of people and the lack of appeal should be focused on. Only new people will not really make the planet partners happy. It's the items that can be looted - sad to say, but this is how EU works - it's all about PED and we all know it. A fancy looking planet alone wont help on the long run.

Not suffering from insanity, enjoying it very much
dunno if this has been suggested already, if it has just ignore this.

1. increase the drop rate of medium power supplies. my first click failed, and it has taken me weeks to farm new, and i still lack one for one atempt at the medium grade power cells. Not to mention heavy power cells... weeks of farming and i am only one third of the way for ONE atempt... come on... ^^

2. there is a cap at like 20 pec or so on blue crystals, so farming blue crystals takes foreeeeeeever, at the same time you need ALOT of blue crystals to craft the noob weapons from technician... where's the sense in paying a fortune in markup just to be able to craft tt food?

3. increase drop rate on the cyrene ores and enmatters ^^ some ores (more than just one or two) you can mine for all day and don't get any.

4. the cyrene weapons are nice... but most mobs on cyrene there is no chance in hell you can hunt with cyrene armors.

5. most importantly... add the mechs! :D i want one ^^ or 20

Hello:)
The way some of the creatures on Cyrene act are a good challenge which could be extended so that the critters don't just sprint toward you and stand in front waiting to be killed. I like the way the Skyshatters stand just out of range of pistols, the Zyn' Dos run from nowhere and give you a friendly headbutt, or the imperium's tend to ignore you. I think giving the cretures unique (attack) properties would be a bigger challenge to ava's.

Because you have set up the world with a number of different (intelligent type) creatures, could ava's join one group? Fight with them, have unique challenges. Different weapons and armour could come from working with them.

I think the PvP on Cyrene is the best yet, and definitely a selling point for any new players.

Are there any plans to utilise the cities? I would hate to see another planet with skyscrapers. You could have a more natural type city that spreads out with time, it might have a market place, more single storey buildings etc. You could have different properties available to buy from a large home, down to hovels/huts that could be bought for a few Ped.

I think you have been smart introducing weapons which (universe wide) fill in some gaps for mid range players. Keep up the smart choice of weapons and vehicles.

You have the sky 'land' areas, and could be the first planet to have useable/interesting underwater areas.

Macca

p.s.
For the next update, anything you have in mind for new players. When I find new players travelling far, trying to kill creatures they cant...and being killed easily...its not the best for them. If you have any new player areas with puny mobs, more missions, free beginner vehicles/weapons, fix that next. For experienced players... I can look after myself for a while:)
You have to get new players for the benefits it gives to your bottom line.

I just don't see how they can release so little content in such a long period of time. What is the size of your team like 2? Do you really spend all day fixing errors and not even getting progress done towards the total amount of errors?
Just sell shops, that will force people to stay there and commit...
Not to mention give you money to hire a team to actually release something other than about 10 bug fixes, 4 textures, and maybe 5 weapons every 2 months, I mean really? That is what you can do in 2 months?

Dear Lykke,
when do we finally get the hard launch? I got here last May and am still waiting.

I was a Calypso Guide and then a Community Adviser,

before MindArk/SDS/FPC/whoever dropped us. Literally!

Before that, I was a Miner. And yes, I have the skill of the correspondent name. But Calypso, where we first were Colonists to settle on a new planet, got more and more a pure battle zone. To do mining, you had do carry loads of armor, weapon and ammo with you, and that isn't fun for me. Where is the exploration? To find new, interesting things? Nope. War. But without fitting weapons. It was like going with a shotgun into a tank combat.

Did I already say, that I'm not a hunter or mercenary? I don't like it. And mining was fun for me, back then, when there were hunters, miners and crafters even. I left Calypso to see the new planets. And... Arkadia was fun in the first days. But then there it was the same as on Calypso, all for hunters, more mobs, more weapons, more war.
And the archaeology thing? Please! I thought it might be cool to gather some scraps and rebuild some vase or so. But what really is it? A new EnMatter bringer for weapons. Just some new skills for plane old mining, so nothing new at all.

Please, can't we play here TOGETHER? PvP is such a childish thing. Thanks to the Revival, we can't die. So it is senseless to shoot other colonists. They will come back. Again and again. Why can't we build something together?

So we are back. I'm mining here on Cyrene, but most of my findings are Lyst and Oil. Not very inviting. Because I can't do much with it. And these crystals? Please!

I'm still waiting for the hard launch and the ongoing development. But it is really hard atm. Mining is good here, because there are so few idiots here that mobtrain me or drive by with a tank. If I want to kill, then I would play Assasins Creed, because it is more difficult to kill there and survive. Hours of "killing the red dot" I don't need. And no PvP either.

But maybe I'm just too old...
